The German Version of Northern Brewer is a dual purpose hop but is most commonly used as a bittering hop; it has an alpha acid of 6-10% and a beta acid of 3-5%. The Cultivar/Brand ID is WFB 135.

It was originally developed in England in 1934 but is not primarily grown in Germany but is grown in several other areas of the world as well.

It has an aroma of mint, pine and grass with some wild tones. Northern Brewer displays pleasant pine and mint characteristics in dual purpose brewing applications.

It is recommended for use in German Lagers, English Ales, American Ales, Belgian and Trappist Ales, Farmhouse-Style Beers, Bitters, Lagers, Porters, and English Pale Ales.

If you are looking for a substitute we recommend Northern Brewer (US), Brewer's Gold (GR)/Brewer's Gold (US), Perle (GR)/Perle (US),  Nugget (US)/Nugget (BC) or Chinook (US)/Chinook (BC).
