East Kent Golding (UK) Whole Hops
Frequently seen referred to as EKG, it is the ultimate English hop. It is grown exclusively in Kent, England. It is actually identical to the Canterbury Golding. There is an aroma that exhibits lavender, spice, honey and notes of thyme. It also incorporates flavors of earth while being mildly bittering with a sweet, silky, honey-like character.
It's a great choice in the following Beer Styles: Pale Ale, Extra Special English Ale, English Dark Ale, English Light Ale, Belgian Ale, Christmas Ale.
Alpha Acid %: 5-6%
Beta Acid %: 2-3%
A good substitute for this hop would be Whitbread Golding, Progress, Fuggle, or First Gold.
