Vic Secret™ is a dual use hop hailing from Australia that has an alpha acid range from 14 to 21.8% and a beta acid range of 5.7-8.7%. It is owned by Hop Products Australia (HPA) under Cultivar/Brand ID 00-207-013.
There are elements of bright tropical fruit, pine and herbs that will give way to clean notes of pineapple and passionfruit. There are actually many different fruit aromas present that also include gooseberry, raspberry and strawberry but there is also some grapefruit and bergamot for an intense and interesting freshness.
It is a hop that is best utilized by whirlpool additions or dry hopping, but don't let that stop you from adding it during a late boil addition because it will impart a beautiful earthiness without any of the fruitiness - essentially displaying more earthy character. The flavors are similar to Galaxy hops but they are lighter in nature.
Vic Secret™ is a great choice for use in these beer styles: Pale Ale, IPAs, Stout, and Porter. Although it is almost exclusively used in IPAs in todays market.
If you are looking for a substitution we recommend using Galaxy®.
Thankfully Vic Secret™ meshes well with many hops and are frequently used with Citra®, Mosaic® (HBC 369), Galaxy®, Waimea™, Simcoe®, Amarillo® and Motueka™.
