Palisade®
Palisade® is a USA dual purpose hop that is generally used as an aroma hop. It has an alpha acid of 5.5-10% and a beta acid of 5.5-8%. It is owned by Yakima Chief Ranches under Cultivar/Brand ID YCR 4.
Palisade® was named for an important instrument that is used in hop gorwing, specfically the pointed wooden stake used in hop planting that is an indispensable climbing support for the hop plant and bines as they grow.
It has an aroma of "American" characteristics that include apricot, grass and clean floral characteristics. It combines sweet fruit, apricot and passionfruit with floral notes of elderflower. The flavor has creamy caramel honey and yogurt with red berries complementing the overall flavor of sweet fruit. Fresh citrus and orange notes round out the aroma.
It is a great choice for use in American Ales, American IPAs, Saisons, Wheat Beers, Brett Beers, English Lagers, English Ales, and Lagers.
If you are looking for a substitute we recommend possibly using Glacier, Cascade (US) or Willamette (US).
Palisade® is available in Lupulin Powder/Pellets via brands such as Cryo-Hops and LUPOMax.
It is frequently used with Simcoe®.
