Styrian Golding is a Slovenian aroma hop that goes by many different names indlugin: Styrian, Savinja Golding, Savinjski Golding, Styrian Savinjski Golding, and Yugoslavia Golding. It has an alpha acid of 2.8-6% and a beta acid of 2-3%.

Although the name would suggest that it is related to Golding hops, it is rather a closer relative to Fuggle (UK), and retains many of those characteristics.

It has an aroma that is not only resinous and earthy but has hints of white pepper. It is known for its spice that features an earthy/sweet edge while still exhibiting resinous earthy flavors that are considered slightly more refined than Fuggle. There are aromas of green tea, lemon and iced tea with spicy herbal notes and sweet fruits like citrus tea with components of lemon and grass. Some describe the aromas as green tea with peppermint and green apple.

It is a great choice for use in Extra Special Bitters (ESBs), English Ales, Oktoberfests, Pilsners, Barleywines, Ales, Lagers, and Belgian Ales.

If you are looking for a substitute we recommend using Fuggle (UK), Willamette (US), or Bobek Styrian.

Styrian Golding is frequently available as a whole leaf hop.
