East Kent Goldings is a dual purpose hop that is frequently used as an aroma hop it hails from the United Kingdom (UK) and is frequently seen as EKG or as Goldings (UK) - although it can also be seen as Kent Goldings Canterbury Golding. It has an alpha acid of 4-6.5% and a beta acid of 1.9-3.5%.

It has been on the market since 1790!

It has a gentle refined bitterness. It has an aroma that is smooth with delicate floral, lavender, spice, honey, earth, lemon and thyme overtones. It is known for its rather sublte expression of flavor with marjoram, cardamom, and woodruff aromas that produce a woody-spicy flavor that all combines with tangy citrus notes. There is also some cream/caramel aromas of gingerbread and spiced biscuits that come together with vegetal nuances of artichoke as well.

The aromas can include flowery, citrus peel, citrus candy, herbaceous, spring meadow-like, grapefruit, tropical fruit, melon, lavender, honey, lemon, thyme, and orange.

It is recommended for use in British IPAs, English & British Ales, Bitters, ESBs, Belgian Ales, Scottish Ales, Porters, and Stouts.

Common substitutes for EKG are Golding (US), Fuggle (UK), Fuggles (US), Willamette (US) and Willamette (BC).
