Fuggle (Fuggles) (US)
Fuggle or Fuggles is a UK grown aroma hop that has had great success being grown in the USA. The US Version has an alpha acid range of 4-5.5% and a beta acid range of 1.5-2.0%. The US version has a more balanced oil profile and higher alpha acid content than the UK grown versions showcasing the terrior of hop varietals.
It has slightly less aroma than the English version but also contains some fruitier notes that are lacking in the English version as well.
Overall it is delciate, mild, woody, grassy and minty with slight floral aromas and green tea notes all backed by some fruity tones. It has a well rounded classic bittering that contains the woody spiciness of tonka beans, cognac, hay and curry tinged with light nuances of green tea, cress and celeriac which can add a freshness.
Fuggle (US) is a good choice for your English Pale Ales, Belgian IPAs, ESBs, Brown Ales and Red Ales.
You could possibly substitute Fuggle (US) with Fuggle (UK), Willamette (US)/Willamette (BC), Styrian Golding or Tettnanger.
Fuggle (US) is often times found in whole leaf form.
