Chelan
Chelan is a USA grown bittering hop with an alpha acid of 12-15.5% and a beta acid of 8.5-11%. It was released in 1994 by John I Haas Inc. under Cultivar/Brand ID H87203-1. It is the daughter of Galena and is extremely similar to its parent but with higher alpha acid levels.
It is mild, fruity, floral and features citrus aromas. There are also aromas of strawberry, cassis and blueberry that all play in harmony with toffee and chocolate. Quince and apple notes round out the fruity notes of Chelan.
It is recommended for use in American Ales.
Chelan hops can be subsituted with Galena, Nugget (US), and Nugget (BC).
