Galena is a dual purpose hop that is grown in the USA. It has an alpha acid that ranges from 11.5 to 15.5% and a beta acid of 7.2-8.7%.
It has a clean, well balanced bitterness.
There are aromas of sweet fruits, pear, pineapple, black currant, grapefruit, lime, gooseberry and spicy wood. However, the predominance of aromas are of sweet and green fruit with fine herbal essences and undertones of floral notes of elderflower rounded out with strong expressions of green fruit and citrus. Overall the aromas are of a medium yet pleasant hoppiness.
It is a great choice for American Ales, Lagers, English Ales, Porters, and Stouts.
If you are looking for a substitute we recommend Brewer's Gold (GR), Brewer's Gold (US), Columbus (US), Columbus (BC), Tomahawk, Zeus, CTZ, Chinook (US), Nugget (US), and Pride of Ringwood.
Galena is available in a Lupulin Powder/Pellet through brands like Cryo-Hops and LUPOMax. It is also available frequently as a whole leaf hop.
