Centennial is primarily an aroma hop that is grown in the USA although it can also be classified as a dual purpose hop. It has an Alpha Acid ranging from 7-12% and a Beta Acid from 3.5-5.5%.
Centennial was acutally named after the Washington State Festival in an ode to where it is primarily grown Washington State.
It is known for its aromatic pine notes as well as citrus and floral notes that combine to create a rounded and medium intense floral, citrus and grapefruit flavor as well as aroma. There are also notes of pine needles and tangerines. There is a consistent background of noted citrus with woody spicy aromas of spruce, barrique, tonka beans, tarragon and aniseed - all of this combines to mix with fruity raspberry notes with undertones of exotic lychee and pineapple flavors with fresh lemon and bergamot spiced with the aforementioned aniseed to create a flavor explosion!
It has aromas of Floral, Citrus, Lemon, Orange Blossom, and Pine. It has a clean, medium bitterness.
It's a great choice for American IPAs, Pale Ales, Stouts, Porters, American Wheats, and Blondes.
