Cluster (US)
Cluster is a dual purpose hop, although it is mostly used as a bittering hop that is primarily grown in the USA (although it is also grown in Australia). It has an alpha acid of 5.5-9% and a beta acid of 4-6%.
Cluster is one of the oldest hop varities grown in the US and is often used in the reproduction of historical beer styles.
It has a medium bitterness and aromas include floral, earthy and sweet fruit specifically of honeydew melon, banana, and apricot. This combines with red berry and spicy notes that leads to delicate notes of cream caramel as well as some floral characters that can come through strongly to the forefront. All of this is coupled with notes of citrus and tea.
It's a great choice for American Lagers, Ales, Stouts, and Porters.
If you are looking for a substitute for Cluster we recommend Galena , Chinook (US), Chinook (BC), Eroica, Nugget (US) or Nugget (BC).
Cluster is often available in a hop oil/extract especially in conjunction with another hop such as Magnum. It is also available as a Lupulin Powder/Pellet under brands such as Cryo-Hops and LUPOMax.
