Hallertau Blanc (GER)
Hallertau Blanc is an aroma hop hailing from Germany that has an alpha acid range from 9 to 12% and a beta acid of 4-7%. It is a daughter of Cascade and was released worldwide in 2012 and was established on the Hüll Farm in the German Hallertau Region by the Hop Research Center Hull. It has a Cultivar/Brand ID of 2007/19/8. The complexity of this hop is reminiscent of many Southern Hemisphere varities but with a cleaner and less dank profile.
There is a complex flavor and aroma profile to this hop. The general flavor profile is fruity with wine-like qualities such as gooseberry and grass and is noted to be very similar to a Sauvignon Blanc. There are moderate to strong notes of pineapple, gooseberry, white grape, fresh lemongrass and passionfruit aromas and flavors. The aroma profile consists of notes of cassis and elderflower as well as grapes, grapefruit and lemongrass. People have also detected passionfruit, pineapple and gooseberry as well!
Hallertau Blanc is characterized by the green fruit - specifically the white muscatel grape flavors - that are combined with citrusy grapefruit and elderflower all with notes of lemongrass and cucumber.
It was grown for use in American-style Ales, IPAs, Belgian Ales, Wheat Beers, Bretts and Pale Ales.
