Vanguard
Vanguard is a USA aroma hop that can also be used as a dual purpose hop. It has an alpha acid of 4-6.5% and a beta acid of 5.5-7%. It is used typically in traditional German-Style beers.
It has an aroma similar to continental European hops - think Hallertau Mittelfruh - with woody and cedar notes combined with the typical noble characters.
It is a great choice for use in Lagers, Bocks, Kolsch, Wheat Beers, Munich Helles, Belgian Ales, and Pilsners.
If you are looking for a substitute we recommend Hallertauer Mittelfruh, Hallertau (US), Hersbrucker, Mount Hood, Liberty and Saaz.
Vanguard is occasionally available in whole leaf hop form.
