African Queen is a South African hop that is a dual purpose hop meaning it can be used from frist addition hops as a bittering agent or as flavor and aroma additions from whirlpool to dry hopping. It may sometimes be seen as J17 or J-17-63. It has an alpha acid of 10-17% and a beta acid of 3.9-6.2%.

It has an aroma that can be described as dank, blueberries, black currant, bubble gum, stone fruit, gooseberries, lemongrass and chilies.

It works wonderfully when you are looking for a interesting note in your subtle beer that may contain coffee, fruit and/or spices and plays very well as a blend with other hops.

It is a great choice for use in IPAs, Pale Ales, Beligan Ales, and Saisons.

Possible Substitutions for African Queen can include Amarillo® (US), Amarillo® (GR), Cascade (US), Cascade (BC), Simcoe®, Citra® and Mosaic® (HBC 369).
