Merkur (Hallertauer Merkur)
Merkur is a German bittering hop that also is used as a dual purpose hop, that has an alpha acid of 12-16.5% and a beta acid fo 4.5-7.6%. It was released in 2001 under the Cultivar/Brand ID of 93/10/12.
It has aroma notes of sugar, pineapple, and mint. It has high alpha bitterness and in some applications it can display subtle earth and citrus notes.
It is recommended for use in Lagers, Pilsners, IPAs, Belgian Ales, and Stouts.
If you are looking for a substitute we recommend Hallertau Magnum (GR), Magnum (US), Hallertau Taurus, Hallertau Tradition, or Nugget (US).
