First Gold (Prima Donna)
First Gold is a UK grown dual purpose hop that has an alpha acid range of 5.6-10% and a beta acid range of 2.3-4.5%. It is also known as Prima Donna and has a Cultivar/Brand ID of S4. First Gold is the world's first Hedgerow Hop released in 1996 by Horticulture Research International (HRI) at Wye College in the UK.
It features aromas of tangerine, orange, marmalade, apricot, magnolia, geranium, sweet notes, floral touches, red berries, herbal tones all with slender spicy notes. It has a balanced bitterness with a spicy fruity flavor.
Overall it is a very well balanced hop that contains woody vegetal notes of cognac, leather and celeriac acompanied by fruity strawberry aroms and tart nuances of citrus. The woody character predominates the hop flavor and aroma but is combined with sweet notes of caramel, toffee, vanilla and yogurt.
First Gold is a good choice for your English Ales, Porters, Fruit Beers, Saisons, and Blonde Ales.
