Southern Star
Southern Star is a South African grown dual purpose hop that has an alpha acid range of 12-18.6% and a beta acid of 4-7.5%.
Southern Star has a clean, crisp and efficient bittering with slight berry, floral and citrus ntoes.
The aromas and flavors come across as pineapple, blueberry, tangerine, tropical fruit, passionfruit, quince, pear, cassis, rose petal, orange and coffee.
It is a great choice for use in Amber Ales, Pale Ales, Cream Ales, Brown Ales, German Ales, IPAs, Pale Lagers, Fruit Beers, Stouts and Porters.
Possible substitutions for Southern Star include Mosaic® (HBC 369), Ekuanot®, El Dorado®, Mandarina Bavaria, Southern Cross and Warrior®.
Southern Star has been well recieved by many brewers and is used frequently with other hops. It has been found to pair well with Mosaic® (HBC 369), Ekuanot® and El Dorado®.
