Ekuanot® (HBC 366) (Equinox)
Ekuanot® is an aroma hop from the USA that is occasionally seen as HBC 366 or Equinox. It is owned by Yakima Chief Hops. They have an alpha acid of 13-16% and a beta acid of 4-5.5%.
Ekuanot® has fruity aromatics of strong citrus specifically lemon, lime and pithy orange. There are also fruity notes of tropical fruit, berry, papaya and even sometimes people notice apple notes. It can have herbal notes such as sage and eucalyptus but ultimately it is fruity to the core and reminiscent of exotic cocktails!
Grapefruit, lemongrass and mandarin orange add tanginess to the accents of ripe guava, lychee, mango, pineapple and passionfruit while black currant, gooseberry and grapes round out the flavor profile.
It's a great choice for your next, IPA, American IPA, American Wheat, Saison, Sour, Wheat Beer, Belgian Style Ale, Specialty IPA, Pilsner, American Ale, and American Pale Ale.
When in a pinch you can substitute Chinook (US), Chinook (BC), Summit™, Galena and Cluster with relatively good success.
Ekuanot® is frequently paired with other hops and it is common to see Mosaic® (HBC 369), Citra®, Simcoe®, Azacca®, Sabro® (HBC 438), Calypso™, and Cascade (US) in use with Ekuanot®.
It can be found in Lupulin Powder/Pellet form through brands such as Cryo-Hops and LUPOMax.
