Spalt (GER) (Spalter)

The German Version of Spalt is an aroma hop that has noble hop characteristics, it has an alpha acid of 2.5-5.7% and a beta acid of 3-5%. It is not the same hop as Spalter Select (Select).

Spalt also known as Spalter dates as far back as the 8th century and is part of the Saaz group of hops.

Its strongly noble characteristics come across as aromas of earthy, spicy, herbal and floral notes. There are woody aromas of tonka beans and barrique with slightly sweet notes of sweet bananas. The floral notes have black tea aromas as well.

It is recommended for use in Lagers, Altbiers, Bocks, Helles, and Pilsners.

If you are looking for a substitute we recommend German Spalt Select, Ultra, Santiam, Liberty, Hallertau Mittelfruh (GR), Hallertau (US), US Saaz, Saaz (CZ), Tettnanger (GR) or US Tettnang.
